Opera needs to understand pleasing customers is enough, they dont need to be clout chasers and trend seekers for christ sakes. Valve and their Steam are very self aware they are a giant Mega Corporation. But dont see Steam or Valve being this Cringe for clout.

I use the browser, I like how many actually useful options it has and how customizable it is. However, they're definetly trying too hard with the marketing - everyone knows they're a corpo so looking at them trying to make all their advertising cool and funny is just cringey as heck. I wish they just stick to promoting themselves as a browser with lots of gaming-friendly quality-of-life options

A deep dive into Vivaldi, the Chromium Opera alternative, would be amazing, considering that the same team that made Opera is now developing Vivaldi in a different company.

Fun fact, Opera itself is really old (first version is from 1995), which makes it one of, if not the oldest browser that's not only still being used, but also is still pretty popular, so fact that they managed to still exist is some form (it runs on chromium, like Chrome, is no longer Norwegian but Chinese, etc) when all the other ones (Netscape Navigator, Internet Explorer, etc.), is pretty impressive.

As someone who uses opera everyday, i find it weird that none of these things happen to me ever

I am worried that the person behind Aura will get the hate-treatment because people always look for the easiest way to funnel their bad feelings about things. She seems like a very nice person and she really loves what she's doing. Getting hate only because you work for a company is just shit and doesn't help anyone.

As someone who is still using Opera GX, I never actually have like 99% of the things that people complain about happen to me. Which is odd

I just got Eric screaming into my ears 'OPERA GX' as what I'm guessing was supposed to be a jump scare after restarting my browser because I was wondering why the application was eating 87% of my CPU usage.

one of the major red flags with opera as a whole was it not being open source. just like a lot of other closed source programs (like google chrome and edge) which takes the sweet oh sweet data of yours. it was shady from the beggining and now theyre trying to cover it up with a band-aid.

This is why you don't hire zoomer social media trend "experts". And I say that as a gen-z myself. People want professionalism and trustworthiness in something that is handling their personal information like a browser. There's a reason bankers and lawyers wear suits, it's their job to be formal and respectful of their role, not to be cool and hip with the kids.

I really hate companies on twitter trying to be seen as 'people', not only do they fail miserably the whole concept is nauseating

They probably could have gotten away with this on April 1st. Poor timing by Opera
